If you’re not already open for business, make sure you devise a plan before opening your doors. You’ll want to think about how to expedite, document, train, and communicate policies to both employees and customers, as needed. Here a few things to keep in mind as you go through the planning and reopening process:

• What is your re-open plan?
• What policies do you have in place (or need to put in place) to address health and safety concerns?
• How will you communicate your policies to customers?
• Do you have (or need) customer forms or waivers to do business?
• Will you be taking temperatures of your employees and/or customers?
• How will you communicate required face coverings?
• What is the plan for limiting the number of people on your premise?
• What type of signage will you need?
• Will you have limited ‘open’ hours?
• How will you mark 6 feet zones or otherwise address social distancing issues?
• Are you a business that needs an increased insurance policy?
• How do you plan to address those who do not follow your health and safety plan?
• Do you have a self-reporting/self-quarantine procedure for employees?
• Have you established a cleaning/disinfectant process and plan to train employees?
• How will you handle meetings for those that are physically in the office?
• What remote work plan(s) will you offer?
• What is your plan to instill confidence in how you’re handling operations, staff, and customers?

Bottom line: Don’t wing it! Think about these things prior to opening to avoid any potential OSHA complaints or negative feedback from current, or potential, customers.
